I have written about practicing in the 21st Century on this blog in the past.  The rapid fire information highway, the high technology, computers everywhere you look.  Patients hear terms like Laser Dentistry, T-Scan, Diagnodent Laser Detection Device, Vita Spectrophotometer, Diode, Erbium Yag, Pulse Oxymeter, Velscope, Itamar PAT-200.....What does all this 'stuff' do!  Is it a case of 'he who dies with the most toys WINS!!!'  As a dentist with lots of 'toys,' I find that the arena for advancing the state-of-the-art care for our patients has never been more available.  With all these advances in dental technology, as compared to the time I first got introduced to dentistry, being a dentist has actually become 'cool.'  I want to share with you the reasons why this is so.

Excellence in oral hygiene is an essential component to excellence in restorative cosmetic dentistry.  They go hand-in-hand.  No matter how good the dental care is, it cannot succeed without the cooperation of the patient.  Taking care of a cosmetic reconstruction is important, but no more important than taking care of a brand new filling.  Patients must be aware that their home care is part of the overall treatment.

Yesterday, Monday, August 2nd, I worked on a patient for 7 hours to begin the journey of a smile reconstruction under light sedation.  It was nothing less than amazing to help this patient achieve the smile he has always desired. Smile. Smile in a mirror.  What do you see?  What are you happy with?  What are you not happy with? As they say in "Nip and Tuck," "What don't you like about yourself?"  Cosmetic Dentistry is as much a thought process as it is a service.
