The practice of Edward Shukovsky, D.M.D., uses some of the most sophisticated dental technology on the market, including laser dentistry, in treating patients from Stamford, Darien, and surrounding Connecticut communities. Our use of this technology allows us to provide the high caliber of dentistry for which our practice is known.
Laser Dentistry
Laser dentistry involves the use of sophisticated dental lasers to treat both hard and soft oral tissues. Dental lasers can be used in a variety of treatments, including removal of tooth decay, root canal preparation, preparation of teeth for placement of dental crowns, crown-lengthening procedures, periodontal gum treatment, removal of excess gum tissue, and cosmetic tooth-shaping procedures. The practice of Edward Shukovsky, D.M.D., uses two types of lasers: the VersaWave® Laser (by HOYA ConBio™) and the BIOLASE laser.
VersaWave® Laser Dentistry
The HOYA ConBio™ VersaWave® Laser is used for a number of hard- and soft-tissue procedures. It minimizes discomfort during dental procedures, often eliminates the need for anesthesia, and reduces bleeding and discomfort after the procedure. The VersaWave® laser allows a dentist to work more quickly and efficiently, which often reduces the number of appointments a patient must make.
BIOLASE Laser Dentistry
BIOLASE is a leading manufacturer of state-of-the-art dental lasers, including the diode laser our practice uses for numerous hard- and soft-tissue procedures. BIOLASE systems include advanced computer software, which allows the dentist to pre-determine the oral tissues he will treat during the patient's appointment.

Laser Cavity Detection
The KaVo DIAGNOdent laser allows us to detect tooth decay (caries) with great accuracy in just a few seconds, and without any poking or prodding of the enamel. Since the laser detects surface level as well as sub-surface caries, it is a valuable tool in the fight against tooth decay.
Digital X-rays
DEXIS digital X-rays provide detailed, three-dimensional x-rays of a patient's teeth, mouth, and cranio-facial structure, without harmful radioactive materials. Digital X-rays enhance our diagnostic and treatment abilities and allow us to detect dental problems in their earliest stages.
Oral Cancer Detection
The practice of Edward Shukovsky, D.M.D., uses the VELscope® system to detect oral cancer in its earliest stages. Early detection is essential to treating this disease.
Computerized Bite Analysis
The T-Scan® bite analysis system allows Dr. Shukovsky to detect flaws in a patient's bite quickly and easily, without messy molds or trays. Computerized bite analysis is used in conjunction with numerous restorative and cosmetic dentistry treatments.
Digital Photography and Imaging
Digital photography and imaging allows us to take detailed images of a patient's teeth, mouth, and facial structure - information useful in Invisalign® treatment, porcelain veneers placement, full-mouth reconstruction, and other treatments. Digital imaging takes just a few seconds.
