The Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation™ Treatment Process

Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation™ can improve the health and appearance of your gums without major gum surgery. The minimally-invasive procedure was originally invented and patented by Los Angeles dentist John Chao, D.D.S. as an alternative to major gum surgery for patients suffering from receding gumlines. Also referred to as the Pinhole Surgical Technique™, the procedure has proven to be an innovative way to restore the gums without the need for long recovery times.

First, our experienced cosmetic dentist, Dr. Edward Shukovsky, will thoroughly clean your mouth and use a local anesthetic to numb the area targeted for treatment. The astonishing results are achieved by a small pinhole opening made in the soft tissue of the gums in the affected area. Using a specialized instrument inserted into the pinhole, Dr. Shukovsky is able to gently loosen the tissue from the bone, allowing it to be draped over the teeth into a healthier position.

One of the many benefits of Pinhole Gum Rejuvenation™ is that multiple teeth can be treated in a single office visit due to the efficiency of this technique. Once Dr. Shukovsky is satisfied with the results, he will place collagen strips within the gum tissue and between the teeth to anchor the tissue into place.

The Pinhole Surgical Technique™ Recovery Process

There are no stitches or sutures needed for the procedure, so recovery time is typically minimal.  Many patients are able to eat normally several hours after their surgery. Also, the pinhole used for the procedure usually heals the same day.
