NightLase® for Non-Surgical Treatment of Snoring

Individuals who snore may realize they tend to lack quality sleep. If they happen to share a bed with another person, their bed partner may also be losing sleep. Unfortunately, snoring treatments often involve either a cumbersome device or surgical intervention – neither of which are generally appealing options for patients. Fortunately, there is another solution that can significantly reduce snoring without requiring surgery or an appliance! NightLase® is a non-invasive procedure that opens the airway by gently reshaping the collagen in the back of the throat using an Er:YAG laser. This innovative technique is designed to reduce the frequency and amplitude of snoring and improve overall sleep quality. Dr. Edward Shukovsky has been treated with NightLase® and can personally attest to the comfort and efficacy of the procedure.

Benefits of NightLase®

Patients treated with NightLase® typically notice a positive change in their sleep pattern after their initial treatment. Long-term results can be seen after all three recommended treatments have been completed. Other benefits of NightLase® treatment include:

  • No needles, incisions, or anesthesia needed
  • Little to no downtime after the procedure
  • Most patients experience no pain during or after the procedure
  • No need to wear uncomfortable, bulky appliances
  • Long-lasting results

The NightLase® Procedure

Snoring is caused when your airway is too narrow for sufficient airflow during sleep. When you are unable to breathe normally and uninterrupted, the sound of snoring is created. To remedy this, NightLase® helps open up the airway by tightening and restructuring the tissues in the back of the throat. This process is called neocollagenesis – light energy produced by an advanced laser encourages production of new, tighter collagen in the targeted area. The procedure is non-invasive and non-surgical, so most patients do not experience any discomfort during or after the procedure.

Prior to treatment, all patients will be asked to complete an at-home sleep test. Combined with a medical assessment, Dr. Shukovsky can determine if you are a good candidate for NightLase®.

The NightLase® procedure consists of three 40-minute sessions performed over a period of two months, and most patients are able to sleep more comfortably after their first session. Once all sessions have been completed, snoring can be significantly reduced, and results should last for approximately one year. Patients can maintain results with repeated treatments for continued comfortable, restful sleep.

Sleep Apnea

Although patients diagnosed with sleep apnea can potentially benefit from the NightLase® procedure, it may not be the right treatment for all patients. If you have been diagnosed with sleep apnea and are interested in learning if NightLase® may be able to help, please contact us today. Dr. Shukovsky is highly trained in sleep dentistry and works with several physicians and internists who specialize in sleep medicine. Together, they can help determine if NightLase® treatment might be right for you. In some cases, patients may elect to supplement other sleep apnea treatments with the NightLase® procedure.
