I remember the first time I had a minor medical problem. I woke up with an earache. My mom called the doctor. A couple of hours later, in walks Dr. Stathis (my family MD). Silver hair, nice suit and tie, little black bag with all sorts of neat things like a stethescope and an otoscope. He was the consummate professional. What Mister Clean was for the floors, Dr. Stathis was there for my ears. It is getting harder and harder to find this type of care and, I fret, it will get even harder. But I miss it. Last night and this morning I got a call from a concerned mom regarding her son who is a college student in Boston. He re-fractured a front tooth and she wanted to know if I knew a dentist in Boston. I gave her the name of a very competent cosmetic dentist that I know in that area. I thought that would be the end of it. But they could not get in touch with the dentist in Boston immediately, so they called me again and said their son was coming down from Boston so that I could treat him!
I am humbled by the fact that this young man is traveling six hours to see me and have me treat his front tooth. I have always believed it to be a privilege to treat people. Whether it be changing the smile with Invisalign, helping a person feel more comfortable with Sedation Dentistry, improving self-esteem with Cosmetic Dentistry, or even just reducing the amount of radiation with Digital X-rays, caring for patients has always been a priority.
I look forward to helping this young man later today. Thank you Dr. Stathis.
