Dentures are one of the most common ways to restore structure and appearance when most or all of your teeth are missing (or have been severely damaged). These specially-made prosthetic devices are designed to mimic the appearance and function of teeth. They can be customized to address all or part of the top and/or bottom arch of teeth. Additionally, dentures are removable, making them easy to clean while also promoting healthy gums. Our experienced Stamford dentist, Dr. Edward Shukovsky, ensures that all dentures created for his patients have been carefully crafted using only the highest quality materials—ultimately providing the most natural appearance possible.

What to Expect
First, Dr. Shukovsky will conduct a thorough exam to identify your individual needs, and can determine whether or not dentures are the best treatment for your unique case. Certain patients may be able to gain more effective treatment with dental implants. In your initial consultation, Dr. Shukovsky can advise you of your available options and provide you with pros and cons for each. Dentures can help restore missing and/or damaged teeth for eligible candidates, enabling them to regain the ability to eat and speak properly.
Full Dentures
If full dentures are the most appropriate treatment, any remaining teeth will need to be carefully removed. A mold will then be taken of your gumline so a proper fit can be achieved. While the dentures are being custom-made in the lab, temporary dentures will be provided. Once your gums have healed and are in good condition, the completed dentures can be fitted in a follow-up appointment with Dr. Shukovsky.
Partial Dentures
A partial denture can take the place of several missing teeth, and attaches snugly between your existing healthy teeth using a metal clip similar to a retainer. To ensure comfort, a cast of the affected area(s) is taken before the prosthesis is made. A temporary denture can be provided while the lab creates the partial denture. Once it is ready, you will be asked to return for a second appointment so Dr. Shukovsky can ensure a secure fit.
Implant Dentures
Similar to full dentures, implant dentures can replace an entire top and/or bottom arch of teeth, and are removable. The key difference between implant dentures and traditional dentures is that the prosthesis is secured in place by snapping onto dental implants that have been placed throughout the gumline. Many patients prefer implant dentures over traditional dentures because they provide exceptional stability and eliminate the need for messy adhesives.
Benefits of Dentures
Once your dentures have been placed for a comfortable and secure fit, eating should become easier and your ability to speak can be improved. Full dentures, partial dentures, and implant dentures are all designed to appear as natural and realistic as possible, so most patients experience a boost in self-confidence after receiving their restored smile. Replacing missing teeth with one of these appliances can also improve your face shape, reducing the “sunken in” appearance that can often result from missing teeth. This improvement in facial structure has been known to help bring a more youthful look to many of our patients’ faces.
